Matchmaker Blaine Anderson, who runs Dating by Blaine, has seen a rise in wealthy, tech-savvy men seeking out traditional wives. These clients, despite their modern success, are asking for partners with a more classic 1950s femininity and staying-at-home ideals, regardless of their own political leanings.
Anderson describes one client, Daniel, who had very specific requirements. He wanted a Christian woman from the Midwest, working in caregiving but not medicine, and conventionally beautiful – with precise measurements for her facial features. Despite his stringent criteria, Anderson failed to find a match for him. However, she notes that this is not an isolated case.
The trend of men wanting this 'trad wife' aesthetic has been fueled by the rise of figures like Hannah Neeleman and ballerina model Nara Smith, who promote the ideology that women should prioritize domestic roles over professional ones. This appeal isn't limited to conservative areas – even in New York, young men are increasingly asking for partners with traditional values.
The trend is also reflected in a recent survey from Kings College London which found that Gen Z men are twice as likely to prefer a more traditional partner who trusts and obeys their husband. However, while this preference isn't inherently problematic, it does correlate with higher levels of hostile sexism among those who favour such partners.
It remains to be seen whether this trend will continue or if society will move past these expectations towards more gender-neutral relationships where both partners share responsibilities equally.
