Reflection AI, a U.S.-based startup aiming to develop open-source artificial intelligence (AI) models, has just sealed a multi-billion dollar computing deal with European tech giant Nebius. The agreement, worth $1 billion, will see Nebius provide Reflection access to Nvidia’s cutting-edge chips.
This partnership comes on the heels of another significant deal signed by Reflection AI in recent weeks, this time with SpaceX for computing resources. As AI firms ramp up their competition, securing robust computing power has become a top priority.
Reflection is one of several open-source AI model developers that have garnered attention recently amid debates over the value and security implications of closed-source models. Concerns about data retention and government intervention are driving interest in more transparent alternatives from China as well.
The company, currently valued at $8 billion, was founded by two former researchers from Google DeepMind. Since its launch in 2024, Reflection has secured substantial funding from prominent backers such as Nvidia, Sequoia Capital, and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
Meanwhile, Nebius, the international arm of Russian tech company Yandex, recently signed a five-year infrastructure deal with Meta worth up to $27 billion. This move underscores the growing importance of robust computing resources for AI development in the current technological landscape.
