Science and compute: A $800M partnership

As AI meets biotech, VC firms like Dimension Capital are reaping the benefits of deep-tech innovation.

While many venture capital (VC) firms struggle to raise funds, New York-based Dimension Capital—a firm that invests in the intersection of science and compute—has been on a roll, raising increasingly larger funds. Its latest fund is an impressive $800 million, marking a 60% increase from its previous $500 million fund just 18 months ago.

Dimension Capital was founded by Zavian Dar, Adam Goulburn and Nan Li in late 2022. They saw the potential for deep-tech companies that combine biotech with software, particularly as founders increasingly embraced this approach. The firm's thesis has proven to be correct: it co-led a $30 million seed investment in Chai Discovery, an AI foundation model developer for drug development, which raised $400 million at a valuation of $3.8 billion. In January 2025, the firm backed New Limit, an anti-aging startup founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, during its Series A round.

Other investments include inference company Modal Labs and Anthropic. After Anthropic acquired Dimension Capital's portfolio company Coefficient Bio this spring for $400 million, the firm received shares in AI giant Anthropic.

This trend highlights a significant shift towards integrating advanced computing capabilities with scientific research. As these technologies converge, we can anticipate more innovative solutions that tackle complex global challenges.
