Facebook launches Seller app to boost Marketplace

It’s all about making transactions more streamlined and secure, even if it means another app in your life.

Facebook is rolling out updates today aimed at enhancing user engagement on its platform. One of the key changes involves introducing a dedicated app for frequent sellers within Marketplace, called ‘Seller’. This app allows users to manage their listings, communicate with buyers and track sales performance.

To ensure authenticity across various services such as Dating, Marketplace and Groups, Facebook is also launching a free verification system known as Facebook Verified. Users can verify their identity by taking a selfie which will then display a check mark within a white circle on their profiles.

In an effort to make the entire experience more immersive, the company is testing a full-screen video view for its app in select international markets before rolling it out to the United States next year. Users can opt-out if they prefer the feed-based interface instead.

With these updates, Facebook aims to keep pace with its rivals and cater to different user segments more effectively. Recent moves include the launch of a Reddit-like app called Forum for Facebook Groups in May, followed by an immersive video app Pocket this month. The company also plans to integrate AI to assist users in automating tasks such as writing descriptions or searching groups.
