GoPro has made a bold move with the launch of its Mission 1 series, offering an action camera that can deliver cinema-quality footage. The Mission 1 Pro stands out with its impressive 8K video capabilities and excellent low-light performance, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with professional-grade cameras.
The prosumer market has long been GoPro’s sweet spot; the Mission 1 series aims to capture a slice of that cinematic pie. While it offers top-notch features, its $699 price tag positions it as the most expensive option on the market. This might make some question whether it's worth dipping into the professional waters.
The camera comes in three flavors—Mission 1 (entry-level), Mission 1 Pro and the upcoming Mission 1 Pro ILS, which features interchangeable lenses based on Micro Four Thirds mount. The latter is likely to appeal more to professional filmmakers, leaving the other two models as rugged adventurers’ go-tos.
Over several months of testing, the Mission 1 Pro has proven itself a reliable companion for any outdoor activity. Its waterproof and durable design ensures that it can weather any adventure, from zip lines to paddleboards. The differences between the Pro model and its non-Pro counterpart are minor, mainly in available frame rates.
The future looks bright for GoPro with this series, but while it stands at a pinnacle of action camera technology, affordability will be key for broader adoption among enthusiasts.
