Ferrari’s Electric Leap

Can tech and tradition mesh in an age of climate change?

Benedetto Vigna, a physicist turned automotive innovator, is steering Ferrari into the electric era with the Luce. Despite its cutting-edge technology, the car faces resistance from traditionalists who fear it might dampen the excitement associated with a classic red Ferrari.

Designed in California by Jony Ive’s agency LoveFrom, the Luce marks a bold departure from Ferrari’s heritage. The cabin’s Apple-inspired aesthetics and unique driving experience challenge the notion of what a true Ferrari should be. Yet, its advanced engineering and agile handling promise a new era of performance.

The Luce boasts 1,000 bhp and mammoth torque, coupled with a 122-kWh battery and four electric motors. Its low centre of gravity and innovative vehicle control unit offer unparalleled dynamic capabilities. Whether the car wins over sceptics remains to be seen.

Vigna’s vision is clear: innovate or die. The Luce exemplifies this philosophy, blending Italian passion with Silicon Valley ingenuity. It sets a precedent for future electric supercars, but traditionalists may struggle to embrace the change.
