Following the release of its premium The Collexion headphones, Sony could be about to make a splash with a refreshed version of its WH-1000XM4 line. Leaked reports suggest that the upcoming WH-1000XM4C will offer similar features but at a more accessible price point—around €250 or £220.
While the new headphones are expected to keep up with their predecessors in terms of noise cancellation and spatial audio, they may come with slight battery life reductions. The original WH-1000XM4 managed 38 hours without ANC, but the XM4C is forecasted to offer just 34 hours.
For long-time enthusiasts of Sony’s 1000X headphones, the decision could be a relief. Some still prefer the sleek design of the XM4 over its successors. As battery life deteriorates with age, the XM4C might serve as an excellent replacement for those holding onto their older models.
Meanwhile, tech junkies and early adapters are left to ponder: is this the year we finally afford a pair of noise-canceling headphones? Or will they remain out of reach until further iterations?
