Also's Spinout Secures Another Big Funding Boost

As AI-driven vehicles zoom towards the future, micromobility gets a tech upgrade.

The startup that spun out of Rivian has secured another $150 million in funding to expand its business beyond pedal-assist bikes and cargo quads into autonomous delivery vehicles. The Series D round was led by Prysm Capital, with existing investors Eclipse, Greenoaks, and MVP Ventures joining the party.

This fresh capital will be used to accelerate development of their autonomous driving technology across multiple form factors, using the same electric architecture they’ve already established for their consumer products. CEO RJ Scaringe sees potential in smaller vehicles just as Prysm Capital saw in Rivian's vertically integrated approach.

While Also is increasingly focused on autonomous vehicle tech, it didn't start that way. It began as a skunkworks project within Rivian driven by Scaringe’s interest in micromobility, which has now evolved into an independent startup with plans to leverage Rivian's tech and retail presence.

Despite initial delays in getting its e-bikes into customers' hands, Also is now beginning to ship preorders of their performance and standard models. As the world moves towards more autonomous solutions, companies like Also are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with micromobility.
