YouTube has rolled out a new feature allowing creators to tag Amazon products directly in their content, earning a cut of sales. The integration turns product recommendations into a direct revenue stream, with creators benefiting from a curated catalog of trending items. If a specific product isn't available, creators can request it, though YouTube's systems can also automatically identify eligible tags in recent uploads.
Creators enrolled in YouTube’s Partner and Shopping Affiliate programs, with an active Amazon Influencer or Associates account, can link their accounts to their channel and start earning commissions. While the feature is currently only available to U.S. creators, Amazon tags can be seen globally, with local merchant options potentially expanding international earning opportunities.
YouTube notes that creators won’t receive breakdowns for individual products or videos in their analytics, but will see their overall daily earnings in YouTube Studio. However, returns will still result in commission deductions. The move brings a significant retailer into YouTube's Shopping Affiliate Program, potentially transforming the way creators monetize their content.
For creators, the new feature could mean more direct income from product recommendations, while for Amazon, it's a strategic move to integrate its marketplace into one of the world’s most popular video platforms. The future of content creation and e-commerce may be more intertwined than ever.
