At its annual Roblox Developer Conference, the gaming giant unveiled a suite of new features aimed at elevating game creation and accessibility. The latest addition, a generative AI tool called “Build,” allows users to craft games with a mere prompt, promising to democratize game development. This summer, the feature will expand to Serbia and Singapore, with desktop access soon following.
Roblox is also gearing up to release its dedicated Roblox Card, enabling creators to monetize their earnings in real-time. By the end of the year, players will be able to join games directly from their browsers, and in a move to enhance accessibility, the company is introducing a Friends chat tab that travels with the player.
Meanwhile, the platform is enhancing its non-player character capabilities, allowing developers to create more sophisticated AI that can playtest games and offer offline modes for users with poor network connections. The Moments vertical feed will also get a revamp, allowing players to purchase items directly from avatars they interact with.
Roblox’s financial products, the Roblox Wallet and Card, are set to give creators greater control over their earnings, with the Card potentially opening up a new revenue stream for the gaming ecosystem.
The platform aims to extend its reach beyond its own walls, making games available as standalone apps on mobile, PC, and consoles. With players spending over 29 billion hours cumulatively across 180 countries, Roblox is clearly aiming to consolidate its position as a leading platform for both creators and consumers.
