Control Resonant, Remedy Entertainment’s newest masterpiece, transforms New York’s Manhattan into a surreal nightmare, blending the impossible with the mundane. The game’s out-of-this-world visuals, including dead floating bodies and shifting skyscrapers, present a unique apocalyptic scenario that challenges the player’s perception of reality. However, the restrictive design and confusing pathfinding can detract from the otherwise immersive experience.
With a new protagonist and expanded setting, Control Resonant introduces a fresh narrative and gameplay mechanics. The ability to switch between weapons, such as the scythe and twin blades, offers variety, and the use of a mind palace to unlock skills adds an intriguing layer of depth. Yet, the challenge of navigating the outdoor maze-like city can be frustrating, with inaccessible staircases and high-walled zones that impede exploration.
The game’s phenomenal paranatural powers and atmospheric art direction are a highlight, making it a visually stunning experience. The Northlight Engine’s path tracing enhances the game’s aesthetics, though performance tweaks may be necessary for smoother gameplay. Despite these technical considerations, Control Resonant remains a captivating journey through a twisted version of Manhattan, where the unseen forces of The Hiss warp the city into a nightmarish realm.
