Marvel's Wolverine is a visually stunning affair, but its linear combat and predictable narrative feel like a missed opportunity. The story, set in Canada, Madripoor and Japan, offers more variety than some recent superhero games, but the gameplay remains one-note, focusing on repetitive combat that feels like mindless button-mashing.
The growling is a mixed blessing. While Liam McIntyre's vocal performance is committed, the constant growling can become irritating, detracting from the narrative. The game's action sequences are a visual masterclass, with Wolverine's claws slicing through enemies in a flurry of animation and blood. However, the combat system is ultimately lacking in depth, with most fights boiling down to a simple rhythm of parry and attack.
Environmental attacks add a welcome layer of variety, but the overall experience feels safe and predictable. The game fails to truly innovate, despite promising a mix of combat ideas that could have been more engaging. While it's an entertaining experience, it doesn't push the boundaries of what a superhero game can be.
