Tesla is revamping its self-driving app to make it easier for owners to subscribe to Full Self-Driving (FSD) and monitor their usage. The new app will display multi-day streaks, adding a playful touch to the driver assistance software.
The redesigned app is part of Tesla's broader mission to position itself as an AI powerhouse. CEO Elon Musk aims for 10 million active FSD subscriptions by 2035 to unlock his $1 trillion pay package.
Currently, Tesla owners can subscribe to FSD using their vehicle’s touchscreen or mobile app, but the new app will allow one-tap subscription for those with compatible vehicles. However, only Tesla models equipped with A14 chip, known as FSD Hardware 4.0, can access these features.
The updated self-driving app will show more detailed statistics than current users see, including bar charts of FSD usage and streaks to indicate continuous use. FSD is available in several countries: Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the United States. In April 2023, Dutch regulator RDW approved its use.
