Xbox Logo Looks Liquid Glassy

Is Microsoft following Apple’s design path, or just embracing nostalgia?

Did Apple inspire the new Xbox logo? The sleek and translucent design certainly evokes its former Liquid Glass aesthetic. This revival of skeuomorphic elements seems to mark a return to maximalism, after years of minimalism. While some fans argue it’s a direct nod to the noughties Xbox design, others suspect the impact of Apple's 2013 shift towards flat design may have influenced both brands.

The rise of heritage celebrating rebrands and the cyclical nature of design trends suggest that nostalgia is driving this move. Whether Microsoft was inspired by Apple or simply looking to reconnect with its roots remains uncertain, but it’s clear minimalism is no longer in vogue.

With Liquid Glass and the new Xbox logo showing a definitive run from flat design, one can only wonder what other iconic brands might follow suit. As Daniel John reports, the world of design seems to be moving in cycles, with old aesthetics making a comeback.
