Xbox axes AI copilot in reshuffle

AI's got a new job description: not being Copilot.

New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is making waves with changes at Microsoft, including the winding down of Copilot on mobile and console. The move comes as part of Sharma’s reorganisation of the Xbox platform team, with executives from CoreAI now supporting the gaming side.

Sharma took over from Phil Spencer in February and has already made significant shifts, such as abandoning the Microsoft Gaming brand and slashing the price of Xbox Game Pass. Despite big promises for Copilot last year, it seems the AI won’t be helping gamers anytime soon.

The decision to retire certain features is a strategic move towards deeper community engagement and faster product development. Sharma’s vision might just be the direction we need in gaming tech.
