Microsoft’s newest Xbox chief, Asha Sharma, is shaking up the Xbox organization with a fresh wave of technical expertise. Key players from Microsoft's CoreAI division are joining the platform team to bring in skills that promise to enhance the developer tooling and infrastructure.
The departures and promotions signal a move towards more technical focus, with Jared Palmer stepping into an engineering leadership role alongside veteran Tim Allen, who will oversee design with a fan-first approach. Meanwhile, Jonathan McKay is set to lead growth and data analytics while Evan Chaki joins a new engineering group focused on streamlining development processes.
These changes come as part of a broader reorganization spearheaded by Sharma, who previously worked closely with Bond but has now taken the helm in what appears to be an outsider’s perspective. Roanne Sones will take a leave of absence, and Kevin Gammill is stepping down after nearly two decades at Microsoft.
Sharma emphasizes staying close to users and building an affordable, personal, and open platform as their goal. With so much AI expertise under one roof, it remains to be seen if the focus will truly shift from gaming innovation to software refinement.
