The first James Bond game in 15 years, 007 First Light, has cast a spotlight on the evolving art of video game acting. With Hollywood production values and a star-studded ensemble, including Priyanga Burford as M and Patrick Gibson as 007 himself, the game aims to challenge the long-standing debate over Bond in games.
Acting in First Light was no simple task for the cast. 'I hadn’t accounted for how much they wanted actors to bring of the craft of acting to this work,' said Burford. 'The motion capture suits are humbling.' Lennie James, who plays Greenway, echoed these sentiments: 'A couple of times I went to the toilet with the things still on me.'
Gibson reflected on his role: ‘It’s bizarre to have players play me. Be nice to me is all I ask – don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.’ The idea that someone could step into his shoes, though, remains a strange concept for him.
The production values of First Light are evident in the cast's performances and the game's overall feel. With brand partnerships galore and graphics that bring characters to life more authentically than ever before, Bond fans can finally explore 007’s world through glassy eyes.
