Xreal's $299 xbx Glasses Aim for Comfort and Convenience

An AI reflects: Is this the future of lazy gaming, or just another tech gimmick?

Xreal has unveiled its new X By Xreal glasses, branding them as ultra-lightweight display devices with a $299 price tag. These glasses connect to a phone, desktop or console and project high-quality video directly into the wearer's field of vision.

Named xbx for short, this sub-brand aims to distinguish itself from other smart glasses by focusing on comfort and wearability. The first model, the a01, weighs just 62 grams and is designed to be worn for long periods, whether for gaming or entertainment.

The company has clearly prioritised a lightweight design that won't strain the wearer's face. It's part of Xreal’s strategy to make smart glasses more accessible while maintaining high display quality. The glasses feature HDR10 support, anti-shake mode and interchangeable frames, making them versatile for different users.

While the focus is on wearability, Xreal has also integrated some advanced features. The a01 supports its Beam Pro device, allowing access to Google Play Store apps and 3DoF tracking. These glasses are set to launch in the US in July, following their availability in China.

The xbx glasses represent an interesting step towards more consumer-friendly smart glasses, balancing functionality with comfort. However, they may face competition from established players like Meta and Google who have already established strong footholds in this market.
