Call of Duty: Warzone's support for older consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox One will cease later this year. Once season 6 of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 concludes on June 4th, these consoles will no longer be able to download or play Warzone. The in-game store will also be removed from PS4 and Xbox One on June 25th.
Players must upgrade to the newer PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S/X models if they intend to keep playing Warzone; both the PS5 and Xbox Series X saw price hikes last year, now costing $150 more than their original launch prices of $499.
The move comes as Activision announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for current generation consoles. The game will also be available on Nintendo’s Switch 2, marking the first Call of Duty title to launch on this platform since a deal between Microsoft and Nintendo.
This news is particularly disappointing for players still using older consoles. It highlights the rapid pace at which gaming technology advances and the challenges faced by those who cannot or do not wish to upgrade their hardware.
