Sony has quietly announced that God of War, the series that once heralded the dad-fuelled battles of Kratos, is getting a significant shift. The next chapter in this epic saga will see players take control of Faye / Laufey, marking a departure from the usual heavy-handed violence and dad-centric storytelling.
While the tone of the game might echo past titles, the gameplay promises an aerobatic twist, with magic-infused action that seems to set it apart. The new cast includes Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Faye, alongside Jack Quaid as Phranque and Perlina Lau as Rue – a talking ribbons character attached to Faye’s sword.
Since its soft reboot in 2018, God of War has solidified itself as one of Sony's most prominent franchises. With this new entry, the series not only continues its legacy but also introduces fresh perspectives and characters. A sequel, Ragnarök, hit PS5 shelves in 2022, and the franchise is now being adapted into a live-action streaming show on Prime Video.
The launch of Sons of Sparta earlier this year further demonstrates Sony’s commitment to expanding the God of War universe. Faye's starring role could signal a broader shift in blockbuster video games, perhaps indicating that moms and their stories are finally getting their due on screen.
