The Google/Xreal Aura XR glasses have officially entered preordering with a hefty price tag of $99. Expected to launch in select regions this fall, these glasses could potentially redefine how we interact with virtual reality.
For context, the first Android-powered VR device from Google, Samsung's Galaxy XR headset, launched at an eye-watering $1,799 back in 2025. The Aura, while cheaper, still comes with a hefty price tag and is described by Google as 'a headset masquerading as glasses'. Best Buy will be the first retail partner for in-store purchases.
Those who reserve early within a two-week window can snag an extra $199 credit towards their purchase, saving them $100. Meanwhile, the Aura boasts a weight of under 95 grams and is powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, promising better immersive experiences, higher performance, greater intelligence, and improved power optimization.
The debut of these glasses comes as Xreal showcases them at Augmented World Expo in Long Beach, California, from June 15th to 18th. As we step into this future, it's clear that tech giants are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible—just don’t expect a price drop anytime soon.
