Sony has hinted that its next-gen PlayStation could offer experiences outside your living room. This might mean a more prominent handheld experience, as Remote Play and PS Portal already let you play on the go. However, Bloomberg reports Sony is developing a new portable console, adding to speculation.
The company aims to break away from the 'PlayStation equals living room' perception by selling peripherals like monitors and speakers. For the next-gen platform, they want to deliver unique value beyond technological advancements, enabling seamless play anywhere.
But don’t get too excited about a new handheld just yet. A response from Sony also suggests higher hardware prices may be on the horizon due to component cost increases. So while the future of gaming might look more mobile, it could come with a hefty price tag.
The launch timing is uncertain. If history repeats itself, we should see a console sometime in 2025, but Sony has reportedly considered pushing back due to RAMaggedon concerns. Either way, prepare your wallets and couches for change.
