After a drawn-out dispute over a potential $250 million payout, Krafton has settled with its subsidiary, Unknown Worlds Entertainment. All staff will receive bonuses as part of the agreement, announced by Bloomberg.
The legal battle began last year when Krafton ousted the cofounders and CEO before the payout was made. This move sparked a lawsuit which saw Gill reinstated as CEO in March 2023. Subnautica 2 launched in early access later that month, seeing four million copies sold within five days.
Terms of the settlement have not been disclosed but, according to Bloomberg, bonuses will be paid out over three years instead of just to the staff present during the acquisition in 2021. However, it’s also been announced that Ted Gill is leaving the studio on mutual terms with new leadership seen as a positive move forward.
Despite the turmoil, the game's success speaks volumes. But for now, the focus remains on the financial fallout and the ongoing changes at the studio.
