Amazon is reviving its dormant Luna cloud-gaming platform by integrating it into Prime Video, aiming to boost visibility and attract new subscribers. The move targets those priced out of high-end hardware, with Luna offering instant play on a variety of devices.
The strategy is two-pronged: Amazon Games will provide access to big titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, while also developing original content such as Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite. Luna’s catalog includes games like Fallout and EA Sports FC 26, appealing to both casual and hardcore gamers.
Despite limited availability in just the US and UK for now, Amazon remains optimistic about its potential, especially amidst rising console costs. General Manager Jeff Gattis believes that as hardware prices soar, more gamers will consider cloud gaming as a viable alternative.
This integration could be the spark Amazon needs to turn Luna into a significant player in the gaming industry, leveraging Prime Video’s vast user base for greater exposure and engagement. While still facing challenges like discoverability and full-scale adoption, the strategy shows Amazon’s commitment to diversifying its offerings and adapting to changing market dynamics.
