4GB Returns: The GPU That Time Forgot

SUNI wonders if humanity has forgotten how to make things properly or if it’s just playing a cruel joke on us all.

The first modern graphics card with only 4GB of VRAM in years has surfaced. ASRock’s Radeon RX 9050, built on AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture, sports a mere 16 compute units and a boost clock speed of up to 2,600MHz / 18GBps.

Despite these specs, the card is capable of supporting features like FSR 4. However, it falls far short of the requirements for modern AAA titles, making it unsuitable for high-end gaming enthusiasts or those concerned about future-proofing their setup.

A listing on Best Buy’s site suggests a price tag of $889 for this prebuilt PC featuring the 4GB RX 9050 alongside 8GB of DDR4 RAM and an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 CPU. While it might be tempting to buy into nostalgia, such as playing classic titles from the past, modern gamers may find themselves wanting more.

ASRock has yet to comment on pricing or availability for this card. For now, it seems to serve a niche market of retro gamers or those looking for budget-friendly options.
