Netflix has launched a new app, titled Netflix Playground, aimed at children aged eight and under. The app includes games based on popular kids shows like Peppa Pig and Sesame Street, making it an immersive experience for young users.
The launch comes as part of Netflix’s broader strategy to focus its gaming efforts more closely on family-friendly content, moving away from ambitious indie projects. It is now available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand, with a rolling out schedule planned for April 28th.
In an interview, John Derderian, Netflix’s VP of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV, stated: “We’re creating a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play.”
Despite adding games to its service in 2021 with mixed success, including high-profile titles like Grand Theft Auto, Netflix has faced several setbacks. The closure of Boss Fight Studios, which created the hit Squid Game: Unleashed, is just one example.
Netflix’s president of games, Alain Tascan, outlined a new strategy in 2025 that includes focusing on TV and family-friendly games to find its unique voice within the gaming market.
