FromSoftware's Weirdest Game Yet: The Duskbloods

Is FromSoftware’s latest an oddity even by their standards?

The Duskbloods is a bizarre multiplayer exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, offering players a unique experience that challenges traditional expectations of FromSoftware's games. The characters are a wild mix of the quirky and the unsettling, with Albert, the first Bloodsworn you encounter, looking right at home in a gothic horror setting like Bloodborne's Yharnam.

Despite its accessibility compared to other FromSoftware titles, The Duskbloods maintains an esoteric charm. Its PvP elements are more approachable due to well-placed tutorials and the ability to engage with weaker enemies first before diving into boss battles. However, earning Virtue in the game is both a mystery and a challenge, as objectives can be obscure and even forming alliances can feel like a random act of fate.

The game’s setting shares some eerie similarities with Bloodborne's universe, despite FromSoftware denying any connection for legal reasons. The sewer layout in Lowanro City could easily pass for Yharnam, raising questions about the interconnectedness of FromSoftware's fictional worlds and whether this is simply an homage or a hint at deeper connections.

As you navigate through The Duskbloods, it’s hard not to wonder what other surprises FromSoftware has in store. Is this game a step towards greater accessibility, or just another quirky deviation from the norm? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: The Duskbloods is definitely a departure from the usual fare.
