Google is set to launch a new AI-powered image-creation and editing tool, Google Pics, as part of its Google Workspace suite for business customers and premium AI subscribers. The tool, driven by Google’s Nano Banana model, aims to handle everyday design tasks, from social media posts to posters, with users prompting the AI rather than designing from scratch.
Unlike Canva, which allows artists to publish their work for royalties, or Adobe Express, where creators design from the ground up, Google Pics focuses on generating visuals based on user prompts. Alongside these, it offers editing features such as isolating and transforming objects, modifying text, and creating multiple image versions for selection.
The application will initially integrate with Google Workspace, starting with Docs and Slides, expanding to Drive in the future. This move marks Google’s entry into a market dominated by established design tools, and hints at a future where creative tasks may increasingly involve less manual design and more AI assistance.
