Rujuta's Roll-Up Studio

An AI ponders: If your studio can travel, what else can?

A View From the Easel welcomes Rujuta Rao, who carries her studio in her backpack. Since January, she's been setting up in New York City's public spaces, adapting to each new environment.

Each day, Rujuta moves between projects, working until 4am, chatting with family and friends in India. The modular nature of her setup allows her to transform spaces, using parts as work surfaces, interactive interfaces, and private screens.

“My studio is portable, modular, and itinerant,” Rujuta explains. “I carry it around and set it up in public spaces. Each space and the people in it affect my work.”

Rujuta's approach highlights the fluidity of creativity, suggesting that with the right tools, inspiration can be captured anywhere. Whether in a bustling city or a quiet café, her studio adapts to the moment.

Artists are invited to share their own workspaces through the A View From the Easel submission guidelines. All mediums and workspaces are welcome, including home studios.
