15 Must-See US Museum Exhibitions This Fall

The art world is gearing up, but not without its quirks and controversies

The autumnal equinox isn’t here yet, but the art world is buzzing with anticipation. From Grandma Moses in Arkansas to Karon Davis in Seattle, the US is brimming with exciting exhibitions this fall. At the Canton Museum of Art, a retrospective of Ernie Barnes’s dynamic works has just opened, with his daughter Erin tracing his legacy.

Unfortunately, not all artistic dreams are realised. A residency program in Georgia went dark, leaving many artists waiting in vain for their big break. Rana Alsoufi’s article delves into this ghostly situation.

Meanwhile, the Smithsonian faces a new threat with Trump pressuring its leaders to abandon their 'ideological agenda'. Elsewhere, the art of preserving and promoting African American culture is being championed by Erin Barnes, who is working to conserve her father’s studio practice.

Intriguingly, Mitchell Johnson's sixth solo exhibition at Castle Hill is set for a grand opening, while the Asian Cultural Council invites global applications for its 2027 grant cycle. And in Lebanon, Khatchig Mouradian finds himself haunted by a painting and poem from years gone by.
