Hannah Lim’s playful sculptures draw on her unique British-Singaporean background, blending classical Chinese motifs with contemporary techniques.
Her work, centered around the 17th-century snuff bottle, explores themes of heritage and identity through intricate, anthropomorphized designs. Each piece, made from polymer clay and Jesmonite, features hidden charms and painted portraits of animals and mythical creatures.
Lim’s inspiration comes from a range of sources, including the ancient Chinese text The Classic of Mountains and Seas. This text provides a fantastical account of mountains and waterways, which Lim uses to create enchanting sculptures and paintings.
She continues to experiment with scale and materials, incorporating metal and laser-cut elements into her recent works. Lim’s upcoming exhibitions and public artworks in the UK promise to showcase her evolving artistic vision.
