In the small town of Kosciusko, Mississippi, artist L.V. Hull has turned her residence into an immersive, continuous artwork.
For three-and-a-half decades, Hull has used found objects and trinkets from Walmart to create an eclectic environment filled with vibrant colors and patterns that merge creativity with daily life.
The exhibition Love Is a Sensation, currently at the Mississippi Museum of Art, celebrates this self-taught artist’s approach to materials and space. From painted everyday objects to unique assemblages, Hull’s work spans a vast array of styles and mediums.
Hull’s practice is integral to the creative legacy of the South, and Love Is a Sensation also marks the opening of the new L.V. Hull Legacy Center this summer, further cementing her place in art history.
The exhibit not only honours Hull but also highlights the often-overlooked contributions of folk artists like her, whose work is marginalized within traditional canons.
