How a Devil Wears Prada 2 artist nailed AI slop
Film fans were on high alert for any sign of AI-generated art in The Devil Wears Prada 2. A meme appearing in the film bore all the hallmarks of what some call 'AI slop'—but it turns out that the image was created by a human artist, Alexis Franklin, who replicated the uncanny and soulless look of AI art more convincingly than most AI algorithms.
Franklin created the image manually using Procreate and Photoshop for a cheap meme. Despite not being specifically asked to mimic AI art, her creation ended up with features commonly associated with it, such as blurred lettering and a retro golden tone.
The revelation that the artwork was made by a human rather than an algorithm has delighted fans of the film, adding a twist to some fashion brands' obsession with machine-crafted visuals. It also highlights the issue of AI replacing human taste in the industry.
