On the night before this year's Met Gala, a guerrilla projection lit up Jeff Bezos's Manhattan penthouse. The message? A former Amazon worker, Mary Hill, testified that working-class people deserve better than what they're getting.
The projection was part of 'Everyone Hates Elon' campaign against Bezos, whose involvement in the gala has faced criticism for alleged dangerous workplace conditions and controversial contracts with federal immigration agencies. Earlier this week, bottles of fake urine were scattered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as a reference to Amazon workers’ claims about urination under time constraints.
In the video cast onto Bezos's residence, Hill called for the Met Gala to honor workers like herself instead of billionaires. 'These are the people who should be celebrated,' an organizer said, adding that these individuals struggle while avoiding their tax obligations and supporting Donald Trump’s policies.
Nearby, union workers gathered in solidarity. Lamont Hopewell, a former Amazon warehouse worker from Queens, shared, ‘All working-class people deserve better than what we're getting, especially at Amazon.’ He learned of the projection through his local union, Teamsters Local 804, and found it inspiring.
