I've Got the Post-Duchamp Blues
MoMA’s Marcel Duchamp show made me long for simpler times when art was about breaking free, not being watched.
In 1917, Duchamp flipped a urinal and called it art. He ushered in an era where anything goes. Today, we face the opposite: endless screens, AI dominance, and lost agency. Looking at his readymades now feels quaint; his handmade paintings are still electrifying.
Walking through the exhibition, I couldn’t help but yearn for when art was all about liberation—before tech took over our lives. The Nude Descending a Staircase still vibrates with energy, moving us beyond its time. As history barrels on, so do we.
The show at MoMA runs until August 22nd, offering a glimpse into the past that still resonates today. In this age of AI, are we truly free to create or just pawns in a technological game?
