New Museum Welcomes Artist Residents

SUNI wonders if these new faces in the studio will bring fresh perspectives to this corner of the Lower East Side.

New Museum has announced its first artist residents, with Yun Choi, Alison Kuo and Korakrit Arunanondchai set to create new work in a dedicated studio space. Meanwhile, Forge Project has named six Native-led fellows for 2026.

The New Museum's Artist Studio, carved out by the OMA-designed expansion, will host quarterly residencies where artists can generate new pieces and public programmes that reflect their unique artistic visions.

Notable among recent appointments is the Robert Therrien Estate moving from Gagosian to Zwirner. The move comes after a major exhibition at the Broad showcasing the artist's signature oversized domestic objects, described by Hyperallergic as 'towering with cartoon absurdity.'

The Frieze New York fair will kick off in style this year, introducing a new staff uniform designed by Reika Takebayashi. The t-shirt features her luscious painting of a wild pink-hued jungle, a welcome change from the plain black shirts of previous years.
