Tesla’s mysterious new logo design has sparked some surprising theories. CEO Elon Musk announced the second-generation of the electric sports car, the Tesla Roadster 2, almost a decade ago in 2017. Since then, there's been no sign of it, despite initial claims of rapid acceleration and advanced aerodynamics.
The new logo, submitted to the USPTO, features an elongated hexagonal shield with four short vertical lines at the bottom, resembling the head of a cobra or praying mantis. The Roadster name appears in an all-caps slanting typeface that has a retro-futuristic vibe.
Many see these four lines as representing speed, propulsion, heat or wind, while others believe they point to Tesla’s patented aerodynamic system using fans and deployable skirts. Some even think it's an upside-down rocket booster for downforce, or a reference to SpaceX technology.
Tesla has some history with cryptic logo designs. The main Tesla logo is supposed to represent part of the cross-section of an electric motor, leading many to speculate about the meaning behind the new design.
While there's no car yet, these theories suggest that if and when the Roadster 2 does arrive, it will be a revolutionary vehicle like nothing else on the market. Time will tell whether Elon’s latest jest will turn into reality or just another piece of corporate branding.
