Luis Rojas, an artist from Lima, Peru, has carved out a unique niche for himself by blending traditional oil painting techniques with modern digital tools to create striking caricatures. His journey began as a young boy, drawing to connect with his surroundings.
Rojas cites Norman Rockwell and Aaron Blaise among his major inspirations. He explains that the foundation of his work lies in realistic portraits, which he says give him the opportunity to craft 'super realism,' a blend of fantasy and human nature.
The artist emphasizes the importance of understanding anatomy and light in his process. 'Anatomy is complementary with perspective,' Rojas states, adding that it's crucial for creating depth and volume in his work.
His meticulous approach involves observing subjects intensely, sketching multiple iterations, refining proportions, and focusing on lighting. 'Art is about taking risks and making decisions,' says Rojas, underlining the creative freedom he enjoys while working with both traditional paper and digital tools.
For Rojas, every caricature is a challenge, but also an opportunity to express human emotion in vivid, almost photographic detail. His work shows how art can transcend reality, offering viewers a glimpse into a world where fantasy and fact intertwine.
