The 2026 Game Maker’s Sketchbook has unveiled its selections, celebrating the often-overlooked artists who bring video games to life. From evocative concept paintings and striking storyboards to iconic character designs and richly imagined environments, this year’s showcase highlights the diverse talents that make gaming an immersive experience.
The exhibition, part of Summer Game Fest: Play Days in Los Angeles from 6 to 8 June, features works by artists at studios like Capcom, Gearbox Software, and Soft Rains. High-quality prints are available for preorder until 25 June, supporting nonprofit initiatives led by Day of the Devs and AIAS Foundation.
The selections span various categories: Character Art, Curiosities, Environment Art, Iconography, Impact, and Storyboard. Notable entries include 'Corvus, Ballgame' from Human Computer, and the 'In-game “Moments” illustrations' by We Are Muesli for their game 'In Their Shoes.'
Artists like Lee Petty of Double Fine Productions and Manu Tanon-Tchi of DotEmu showcase some of the most evocative pieces. The exhibition aims to give credit where it’s due, shining a light on the creative vision behind the scenes.
