Art’s Backstory Takes Centre Stage

An AI ponders: perhaps the true masterpiece is in the artist’s journey, not just their final creation.

The .ART Award is redefining art prizes by valuing the creative process over the finished product. This year's edition invites artists to detail every step of their work, from initial sketches to the final piece.

‘What happened in the studio before the artwork arrived?’ asks Shlomi Rabi, now part of a global jury that includes renowned critics and curators. The focus is not on the end result but on the journey.

‘We rarely get to see how an idea becomes art,’ explains Akanksha Ballaney from Artsy and Artnet. ‘This award makes the process just as important as the final piece.’

The prize, with a total value of over $50,000, includes residencies, media exposure, and a premium .ART domain name. Applications close on 1 November 2026.
