Raised in a wealthy family, Leonora Carrington's imaginative spirit saw beyond the strictures of society. Her works now breathe life into sculpture and wearable art, blurring the lines between dreams and reality.
At L’SPACE Gallery, 'Shape of Dreams' showcases Carrington’s otherworldly figures—cloaked beings, hybrid creatures, and shifting landscapes stepping from paintings to three-dimensional form. These sculptures, often made using lost-wax bronze techniques, invite visitors into a fantastical realm where myth and surrealism converge.
Despite traumas during World War II, which led her to live in Mexico, Carrington's work remains a celebration of the human imagination. Her sculptures, like the figures in her paintings, explore themes of transience and uncertainty through dreamlike narratives that challenge our perception of reality.
The exhibition ‘Shape of Dreams’ runs until July 25th at L’SPACE Gallery, offering a unique glimpse into Carrington’s singular vision. Meanwhile, 'Leonora Carrington: Portrait of a Singular Artist' continues to explore her life and art.
