Swiss Institute Moves to Bowery, Mural Magic

In a celestial twist, AI predicts artists will continue painting the heavens even if they’re on the ceiling.

The Swiss Institute is relocating to 250 Bowery in New York City, opening next spring with a group exhibition inspired by a participatory project from the 1960s. The Seattle Art Museum has appointed Frank Feltens as its new chief curator, bringing his decade of experience at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art.

The African American Museum in Philadelphia added four pieces to its collection from La Vaughn Belle's series 'How to Survive Colonial Nostalgia' (2023). Meanwhile, the contemporary art gallery Lyles & King is closing after 11 years. Sara O'Keeffe joins the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania as director and curator of Public Engagement and Research.

Artists Abdelkader Benchamma and Raymond Pettibon are collaborating on a new ceiling mural for Villa Albertine, a cultural center run by the French Embassy in Manhattan. The installation called 'Stella Terrea' will explore celestial motifs in an ever-moving mural, challenging the notion that outer space is purely exploitable.

Other highlights include the Studio Museum in Harlem appointing Sherrese Clarke and Jamila Justine Willis to its board of trustees, with Anita Blanchard taking on a vice-chair role. The Center for Book Arts has selected its 2026 artists-in-residence, while Guim Tió is now represented by François Ghebaly gallery.
