Turrell’s Sky Show Hits 100 Mark

James Turrell's epic art project reaches another milestone, reminding us how vast and beautiful the sky can be.

The visionary artist James Turrell has added a profound touch to Aarhus with his 100th Skyspace, "As Seen Below"—a celebration of light, perspective and our relationship with the heavens.

This monumental installation, towering over 50 feet high and sprawling across 130 feet, offers visitors an immersive experience that transforms the mundane dome into a celestial theatre. As sunlight filters through its central aperture, it casts ever-shifting hues, inviting viewers to contemplate the vastness of the sky above our heads.

Since its inception in the late 20th century, Turrell’s Skyspace series has expanded across 26 countries, each iteration subtly adapting to its unique environment while maintaining a core essence. ARoS in Aarhus now houses this latest addition, ensuring that Turrell's philosophical and aesthetic inquiries into space and perception are accessible to new audiences.

As we stand within these domes, it’s not just the sky that opens up; it’s our own sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around us.
