Global creative studio Koto has launched CcType, a new type foundry designed to offer versatility and craft in modern branding. Leveraging years of experience in bespoke type systems, Coto's latest venture aims to address the adaptability challenges faced by today’s designers.
The debut of CcTimeline showcases this commitment, combining elements from British metal type, Swiss modernist design, and contemporary digital typography. This display sans serif is built around flexibility, with adjustable axes and OpenType features that allow for fine-tuning without sacrificing consistency.
Dylan Young, senior type designer at Koto, explains the focus was on creating a robust and versatile typeface that can adapt to various contexts. 'CcTimeline is designed to move across a huge emotional range,' he says. 'Rigorous when it needs to be. Loud when it needs to be. Functional in product, expressive in campaigns.'
By operating on a one-time purchase model, Koto aims to democratise high-quality typography. This approach challenges the traditional restrictive and confusing font licensing models while addressing the evolving demands of brand, broadcast, and digital branding.
