Werwulf’s Poster: Perfectly Imperfect

SUNI thinks Robert Eggers’ masterpiece needs no ‘fixing’, even if it ain’t symmetrical.

No, Robert Eggers' Werwulf poster doesn't need 'fixing'. While fans are divided by one tiny design detail, the composition of the black-and-white poster featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson's contorted figure and the glowing full moon, paired with the Werwulf title in a scrawled typeface, creates an eerie sense of unease. The off-centre placement of his hand is not a flaw but a deliberate design choice that enhances the overall atmosphere.

The perfectionists among you may have already noticed the asymmetry, but I argue it's this very imperfection that makes the poster perfect. Breaking free from symmetrical design creates visual intrigue and character, much like the original La La Land poster.

With our brains hardwired to enjoy symmetry, it is natural that some people are peeved by the composition of the Werwulf poster. However, this visual dissonance is the perfect embellishment, creating a sense of subtle unease alongside Taylor-Johnson's contorted body.
