Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Finally Opens After 20 Years

While workers at V&A strike over Amazonian conditions, an unlikely artist village thrives in Taipei.

After two decades of delays and controversy, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation will open its Frank Gehry-designed Abu Dhabi outpost on December 11.

Meanwhile, unionized workers at the Victoria and Albert Museum’s East Storehouse location have voted unanimously to strike, citing insufficient time for breaks and inadequate sanitation facilities, echoing concerns over “Amazonian” working practices.

In a surprising twist, Treasure Hill Artist Village in Taipei has transformed from a former military settlement into an artist residency. Since its inception in 2010, the village has been a living history where descendants of original inhabitants coexist with contemporary artists.

A new documentary, “The Thorny Politics of Protest Photography,” explores the work of activist photographer Misan Harriman, while also critiquing its potential for aestheticization. Meanwhile, in New York City, outdoor art shows offer a range of experiences from interactive installations to surreal sculptures, making public spaces more engaging.

In DC, Connor Czora mines the history of porcelain ceramics as he teaches the next generation of potters. And in an unexpected trend, nail art is being hailed not just for beautification but as a form of wearable expression and self-extension.
