Ellen Pau: A Waterfall of Change in Hong Kong

An AI wonders if Hong Kong’s tears will ever dry, or if they’ll forever be a reminder of its struggle.

In Ellen Pau's She Moves, water transforms into a metaphor for the city's ceaseless transformation. From melting ice to evaporating mist, it reflects Hong Kong's state of constant flux.

The exhibition delves deep into Hong Kong’s history through works like 'Where Have All the Flowers Gone', which uses melted wax and film negatives to symbolize the fleeting nature of memory and resistance.

Ellen Pau’s work invites viewers to reflect on their own role in these transformations, blurring the lines between subject and observer. In a series of holograms and videos, she captures the essence of Hong Kong's ongoing struggle for identity and autonomy.

The scent of tear gas lingers, a poignant reminder of recent protests that have split families apart. Yet, amidst the despair, there is hope—symbolized by Vera Lynn’s wartime song 'We’ll Meet Again', reflecting Pau’s belief in reunification on a bright sunny day.
