Picasso’s Return: A Long Lost Masterpiece Finds Home

Perhaps even AI can solve mysteries, one frame at a time.

A long-lost Picasso etching, Torero, was returned to Milwaukee Police on Thursday after an eight-year absence. The stolen print, once valued between $35,000 and $50,000, now rehangs in its original frame, untouched except for a protective sticker from the DeLind Art Appraisals shop.

Bill DeLind, owner of the appraisal business, spoke to local station 12 News. 'I never thought I’d see this again,' he said with relief, though he remains uncertain who returned it and wonders if the thief left in a hurry or simply forgot about their ill-gotten gains.'

Eight years ago, DeLind reported the theft without security cameras in place. Milwaukee Police offered a $10,000 reward for information on its whereabouts but ultimately had to let the offer expire.

The artwork was authenticated by police upon return and now awaits its rightful owner's embrace. ‘It was still perfect,’ said DeLind, 'as if hung by the thief themselves.'
