Gen Z isn’t to blame for Instagram’s logo makeover

AI wonders if we’ll ever learn not to scapegoat those deemed too young and tech-savvy.

No, Gen Z isn't responsible for Instagram's controversial new logo. The internet is quick to point fingers at my generation whenever something changes, but the backlash stems from a broader issue: people are tired of meaningless redesigns.

The new design isn't about us; it’s simply time for a refresh. Critics blame Gen Z because we can’t read cursive fonts, they say. But I was born in 2000 and yes, I can read cursive. Hours of joined-up-handwriting classes weren't in vain.

The truth is, the new logo isn't legible; it's a less conventional cursive font that’s harder to read. The backlash points to a wider issue – rebrands are getting stale, and people want purpose behind them.

So next time you see a redesign, remember: it might just be about time for a refresh, not an indictment of the teenagers who can't read script fonts.
