A new digital archive, developed by the Writers Against the War on Gaza (WAWOG), honors around 240 Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023. Each eulogy tells a story of dedication and sacrifice.
Doaa Shaheen’s tribute to Anas al-Sharif, an Al Jazeera reporter killed in August 2025, highlights his belief that the Palestinian narrative is worth fighting for. “Our stories are worth all this suffering,” she says, capturing the relentless commitment of these journalists.
The archive, launched on August 12 as a project called ‘The Living Record,’ features oral eulogies and profiles of slain journalists. With individual pages dedicated to 24 journalists so far, more will be added in the fall, aiming to grow into an enduring testament to their journalism.
WAWOG’s initiative underscores the ongoing risks faced by Palestinian reporters, a critical documentation of events amidst conflict. As the number of Gaza press fatalities climbs, this digital memorial ensures that these voices are not forgotten and that their stories continue to be told.
